Process Tailoring

RUP® is an extremely flexible process framework which is difficult to use "out of the box". To get the best out of RUP®, you need to tailor it by deciding:-

• Which artefacts do you need to produce and which can you omit
• When should you produce an artefact and what form should it take
• How will your organisation's staff map onto RUP® roles
• Do you need to make changes to the process to meet your needs

However, tailoring RUP is not easy, especially as process tailoring skills are not found in most organisations as they are not part of mainstream software development. You need to know what works and what doesn't, what is essential and what can be omitted. You need to understand the implications of each change that you make.
You also need to configure your software tools to support the new process.
