Unified Modelling Language

Overview

The Unified Modelling Language is the OMG® standard for visual modelling, and is now the most widely used and supported notation for software analysis and design.

Adopted as a standard by the OMG in November 1997, it has now been revised and updated to version 2.0.

However, version 1.x is still widely used, and for most users, the transition to version 2.0 is fairly straightforward.
